VINTAGE SERVICE RIFLE MATCH RULES.

Competition starts: July 27th, 2002 9:00am Terrace Rod & Gun Club

The Match

The contest will be known as the Vintage Service Rifle Match, hereinafter referred to as "the match".

The Intention:

  • To promote an interest in vintage service rifles.
  • To keep the match as simple and accessible as practical.
  • To have some fun without being too hung up on winning.

Equipment:

1. Three classes of rifle will be recognized

Class 1

Standard "as-issued" EX Service Rifles. Gas operated semi auto rifle (non-restricted) and bolt action rifles. An attached bayonet will add 5% to your score.

Class 2

Sniper or target rifles. For our purposes, those with bedded actions, packed barrels or fitted with heavy barrels and/or target sights. (including 4 power or less scopes).

Class 3

Sporterised Service Rifles. For our purposes any rifle with the woodwork cut back ,restocked, modified trigger or other major components, and/or non-military, any power telescopic sights will be considered to have been sporterised. There must be positive means to attest to the rifle’s military origin.

2. Specialized shooting jackets, gloves/mittens are not to be used.

3. Eye and Hearing protection are MANDATORY.

4.Standard issue slings may be used, but must be fitted in the original position and manner. (Exception Class 3 – any type of sling).

Ammunition:

Any commercial, military surplus, or handloads may be used.

Range:

The match will be at 100 yards (or 100 meters).

Shooting Positions:

Three positions will be used (all at 100 yards):

  1. Prone – supported
  2. Sitting / Squatting / Kneeling – unsupported
  3. Standing – unsupported.

Target

100 Yard Events: Standard 100 yd. IVI Sighting Target.

Contest Course of Fire:

There will be four (4) individual events for each level of rifle.

Event 1.

Rapid Fire at 100 yard target, in the Prone Position.

  • Marksman is permitted a rest while conducting this exercise.
  • Five rounds will be fired over 25 seconds (5 seconds per round).
  • Each shooter will be individually timed and monitored..
  • Any round not fired after the 25 second period must remain unfired.

Shots accidentally fired after this period will not be counted in the point allotment. (For this purpose, if a shot is fired after the 25 second period has elapsed, the hole closest to the bulleye will be deducted from the point allocation).

Event 2.

Standing Position at 100-yard target.

  • Marksman is permitted up to two (2) Minutes per round.

Only five (5) rounds are permitted for this phase of the competition. (For this purpose, if a shot is fired after the two minute period has elapsed, the hole closest to the bulleye will be deducted from the point allocation.)

Event 3.

Kneeling, Sitting, Squatting Position at 100-yard target.

  • Marksman is permitted one minute per round. Only five rounds are permitted for this phase of the competition.

(For this purpose, if a shot is fired after the five minute period has elapsed, the hole closest to the bulleye will be deducted from the point allocation.)

Event 4.

Prone Competition at 100-yard target.

  • Marksman is permitted seven (15) minutes to fire fifteen rounds.

(For this purpose, if a shot is fired after the seven minute period has elapsed, the hole closest to the bulleye will be deducted from the point allocation.)

Scoring: (Checking Scores)

  • When a shot touches the line between the scoring divisions of the target, the competitor will be credited with the higher value.
  • No competitor may knowingly claim or accept points which he/she has not made.
  • A shot on the wrong target will be counted as a miss.
  • When there is not evidence of a bullet strike, a miss shall be tallied.
  • When there is a scattering of dirt, the whine of a bullet, or similar apparent evidence of a suspected ricochet, the Referee shall be called to the target. He/she will determine whether or not there is clear evidence of a bullet strike on the target, even though the bullet hole may be elongated, and despite the presence of other holes in the target.

Awards:

First Prize:

  • The First place competitor will have his/her name inscribed on the Event Trophy.
  • Be awarded a personal plaque.
  • Hold the title of Service Rifle Champion (for a period of one year).

Second Prize:

  • The Second place competitor will be awarded a Second Place Plaque.

Third Prize:

  • The Third place competitor will be awarded a Third Place Plaque.

Presentation of the Awards will take place at the Lodge, after which the event participants, volunteers and organizers can enjoy refreshments, hot dogs, hamburgers and comradery. A swap and shop table will be available to advertize any wares you might have to sell, trade or buy.
